The UCLA-LIVESTRONG™ Cancer Survivorship Center of Excellence is holding an educational event for cancer survivors at UCLA on April 5, 2008, from 9:30am to 3:30pm at the UCLA Covel Commons, which is located in the northern part of the UCLA Westwood campus (map: http://www.ucla.edu/map/map_northwest.html).

 Cancer survivors are a unique population with many critical physical and psychosocial needs to be addressed. Cancer Survivor Education Day will provide education, resources, and the latest research on survivorship issues. Our speakers include internationally known researchers and physicians from UCLA and the community. Topics include:                                                 
  • Physical long-term and late effects of cancer treatment.
  • Psychosocial issues for survivors
  • Health and wellness after cancer
  • Employment and insurance issues for survivors
  • The role of integrative medicine in survivorship

There will be a plenary session in the morning with topics that are of interest to all survivors; in the afternoon, there will be smaller sessions with more targeted topics such as men’s health after cancer, pediatric cancer survivors, cardiac complications after cancer treatment, and several others to choose from. 

There will also be a resource fair with local and national organizations involved in cancer survivorship that will have information and materials to take home. We will provide healthy snacks and a boxed lunch for everyone.

The cost to attend is $10 per person. At this time we can only accept checks for payment; we cannot accept credit cards. As we have a limited number of seats, you must register on this site and send in your $10 per person payment in order to reserve your spot. Checks should be made out to the UC Regents and mailed to:

Parking is $8 per car. You will park in the “PSV” parking lot, which is off of De Neve Drive on the UCLA Westwood campus. 

Directions: (map: http://www.ucla.edu/map/map_northwest.html)Take Sunset Boulevard to Bellagio Drive.  Turn on Bellagio to get onto the UCLA campus.  Bellagio will run into De Neve Drive; go left on De Neve.  De Neve will take you to the PSV lot where you will park.  There will be parking attendants on duty to assist you.

Once you have parked, take the elevator to the top floor of the parking lot.  When you exit the elevator you will see the Covel Commons building in front of you.  Enter the building and go to the second floor to the Grand Horizon room.  We will have signs directing you to both the SV parking lot and the Covel Commons building.
